Community Outreach
After a steadfast century, South Boston Neighborhood House continues to be a significant source of stability to the neighborhood and its families. The Neighborhood House fosters and maintains a strong collaborative network of organizations and agencies to insure our community and its residents have the highest possible quality of life.
Building on the success of our mentoring relationship with the Old Colony Tenants Association, our partnership with the Boston Public Schools in South Boston, and our participation in the South Boston Summer Collaborative, last year we established the Old Colony Initiative bringing enrichment programming directly to the housing development.
The Neighborhood House maintains leadership roles in several collaborations community wide (South Boston’s Child Care Cluster, Association of Non-Profits, Hope & Recovery Coalition, and Summer Collaborative) as well as the Massachusetts Association of Settlement Houses.
South Boston Neighborhood House Community Outreach programs include: Parent Education and Support Programs; the Ambassador Program for welcoming newcomers especially linguistic minorities; and our Summer Jobs Programs in conjunction with the Private Industry Council (PIC), Boston Youth Fund, and Massport, to provide jobs and direct supervision for over 100 teens each year.
Volunteers have always been an integral part of the Neighborhood House contributing to our mission through their leadership and service, volunteers continue to play a pivotal role in the life of the House today. We actively outreach, recruit and incorporate volunteers into the daily operations of our programs and special events. Bi-annual Community Care Days with our corporate partners and Community Blood Drives are part of our community outreach strategy. Finally at the holidays South Boston Neighborhood House coordinates and distributes donations of toys, clothing, misc, and food baskets from dozens of companies, groups and individuals, benefiting hundreds of children and families throughout the community.
