After School Program

Purpose

The South Boston Neighborhood House (SBNH) was founded in 1901 and has a long history of offering programs for children. Its modern out-of-school-time program for school age children is designed primarily for working parents and their children. Agency goals in the provision of quality care are two fold: providing support to working families and promoting the growth of the children in our care. Our priority is to serve children from the community, including children who may have special needs.

Seventh StreetProgram

The program at the main site operates an after-school program from 2:15–5:30 p.m. each day, offering transportation and escort services from local schools to SBNH. The program offers full-day service during school vacations, summer months and some scheduled school closings for both sites. The summer program includes a bus for off-site bus trips each day.

The program encourages close communication between parents and teachers as we work together in the child’s interest. Parents are welcome to visit at any time and to consult with us if they have any concerns about their child or any feedback about our program.
Activities offered throughout the year include:

  • Cooking
  • Crafts
  • Gym activities
  • Dance Classes
  • Clubs
  • Computers
  • Track and Field Club
  • Homework Help
  • Science Projects
  • Games
  • Educational Support
  • Recreational activities

Learning components, such as literacy, numbers, and character education, are incorporated into the curriculum on a consistent basis as well as multicultural activities, especially those reflective of the program population.
