The School Age Program works to meet the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual needs of each child at various stages of development. The trained and dedicated teaching staff offers a wide variety of developmentally appropriate activities in a safe, comfortable, and nurturing environment. This setting provides children with the opportunity to develop socialization skills through interaction with peers. Staff is trained to respect individual differences in maturation, interests, and personality and to support the development of each child’s sense of positive self-esteem. Opportunities for choice by the children are provided regularly to encourage personal responsibility and independence. Quality school-age care is considered to be a meaningful component in the development of healthy, happy adolescents.

The SBNH School Age Community Learning Center (CLC) Program enrolls children ages five to 12 years of age. The program operates at two locations including an after-school program at the main site (521 East Seventh Street) and a before-school program at the Perry Elementary School (745 East Seventh Street).

School Age Schedule

School Age is open during the school year Monday - Friday, 2:15 to 5:30 p.m.. The Program bases its Full Day schedule on the Boston Public School calendar (i.e. vacations, early dismissals, professional days). There are two exceptions to this policy:

1. First Fridays of the month, when private schools have early dismissals. School Age covers these half days.
2. When at least three private schools are closed for a professional day, School Age will open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 5:30 p.m.

Parents should inform the Program of such closures at least two weeks in advance. This policy does not include the beginning or end of the school year.

It is important that the children arrive at established times in order to maintain a safe and adequately supervised program.
