Scholarships
Throughout the year the South Boston Neighborhood House (SBNH) offers a variety of services designed to encourage, inspire and help our members acquire stronger study skills and improve academic achievement.
Beginning in our Early Care and Education Programs where teachers prepare students for kindergarten and continuing in our School Age Community Learning Center, education is a strong part of the daily curriculum. Special emphasis is placed on preparing middle school and high school students for entrance exams such as the ISEE, SSAT and SAT as well as individual tutoring and group study hall sessions. We also offer College 101 and 102 programs for high school Students to assist them in the process of applying for college, visiting colleges and universities and supporting them in this confusing and sometimes difficult process.
By opening their minds to education and providing them with the opportunity to see and understand the many options that are open to them, we have seen an increase in the number of participants succeeding in high school, attending college and realizing that there are options for them – decreasing the notion that there is “nothing out there for me.”
Through the generosity and kindness of several families with strong ties to the South Boston Neighborhood House, we are able to offer a number of scholarships to students preparing to enter both high school and college. Again, working to support the educational efforts of the students and their families.
